Hello 8 Respect!

I’m finally getting a chance to get this blog up and running.  We will be joining the blogging challenge, and it starts at the beginning of October.  We need to get ready! A lot of you have probably heard of blogs (Web-log) or even vlogs (video-log).  As part of this class you will become a blogger.  There are TONS of different types of blogs out there, probably one for every topic you could think of.  Since this is the first time I have used Edublogs, this will be a learning experience for us all.  I hope that the more tech savvy among you will help out your classmates who may not be as comfortable on the computer.

A little update about me, since these blogs will be one way for us to stay in contact while I’m gone. My husband was able to be moved to the regular hospital floor last (Tuesday) night.  He had been on the Intensive Care Unit for the week after his surgery.  It was scary, but each day he got a little better rather than worse.  They haven’t given us an idea of when they will let him out of the hospital yet.  I can’t wait to get back to school (who says that?!) and get to know all of you. At this rate, it’s going to be winter break before I figure out all your names!

While I have been here, I started the Harry Potter series.  During this week I have gotten through two and a half of the books.  I love it!  I know some of you have read, or are reading, these. In the comment section, let me know which your favorite is and why, or tell me why you haven’t read them and what I should be reading instead. Once you have entered your comment, visit other blogs  to learn about blogging.

  1. Hi Mrs. Black! I hope your husband is feeling better! I haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books, but I think that you should read Cell by: Stephen King! If you like creepy books, this one is for you!

    1. I do like creepy books, quite a bit actually. I haven’t read much Stephen King, but have watched a lot of the movie adaptations. I’ll have to add it to my “to read” list!

  2. The Harry Potter series is great, but if you want a great, fun, and challenging series, it’s the J.R.R. Tolkien series. The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and/or tales from middle earth. Hope your husband’s getting better, send him my thoughts. Peace Mrs. Black!

    1. Thanks, I did read The Hobbit when I was in 8th grade, but I haven’t read any of the other books. My husband has all the movies, so I have seen some of them. I remember liking the book a lot, so maybe I’ll have to read more!

  3. I have read the whole series, but my favorite book is either the Goblet of Fire or the Chamber of secrites. My favorite book series is the Percy Jackson/Blood of Olympus series! I hope your back soon.

    1. I like the Percy Jackson series too. I haven’t read the Heroes of Olympus yet though. I wonder if Mrs. Elsbecker has those books.

    1. I accidentally checked out the second book first, but knew I had the wrong one right away. I thought about just skipping the first one, but I’m glad I didn’t. It was good!

    1. Is that about the Holocaust? I think I want to read that. If it is what I’m thinking of, otherwise I don’t know what it is.

  4. I have not read the Harry Potter books because the movies are stupid and I don’t want to waste my time by reading a stupid book. I think you should read either the Percy Jackson & the Olympians, The Kane Chronicles, The Heroes of Olympus, or the Alex Rider series (series is plural)

P.S. I hope your husband gets better soon. I’m praying for you & Mr. Thomas.

    1. I really like the Percy Jackson series. I used to have a bunch of the Alex Rider books, but I think kids checked them out and didn’t bring them back. I started Stormbreaker, but I don’t think I got to finish it. I want to read the Kane Chronicles and Heroes of Olympus as well.

  5. I haven’t read the books, but I’ve seen the movies so, I don’t see the point in reading the books. Right now I’m reading the second book of the gatekeepers series, Evil Star, and its about these gates and 5 kids have to stop them from opening.

  6. Hey hope your husband gets better and you can come back to see us. You should read the Among The Hidden series its really good. (:

    1. Thanks! I can’t wait to come back. I want to read that series a lot. It’s been on my “to read” list for about 6 years now!!!

    1. I haven’t read those, although I have seen the movies. I did read The Hobbit when I was in 8th grade, and I remember really liking it. I may have to give them a try.

  7. I dont read the harry potter series. Right now im reading The fault in our stars. Hope your husband gets better soon! 🙂

    1. I LOVE The Fault in our Stars! I’m glad I read the book before I watched the movie. I have also read An Abundance of Katherines, by John Green. I liked that as well and want to read more.

  8. I dont read harry potter it just creeps me out but i honestly think you should read the david pelzer serious if you havent already they are all amazing books and will get you very interested and you would want to read more and more.

    1. I totally agree about the David Pelzer books. I love them, even though he has to go through such hard stuff. I have read the first two, but haven’t read A Man Named Dave.

  9. The Prisoner Of Azkaban is the one I like the most from the series. He learns a new defense tactic against the dark lord. The book I am reading right now is called The condition, this young girl has Turner’s syndrome, if you don’t know what that is. She gets older but her body stays little like a kids, and her brain, at the age she was traumatized.

    1. That is the one I’m on right now. Your book sounds really good. Did you get it from the library? I want to read it!

  10. I have not read them because I don’t like harry potter or stuff like that 🙁 sorry

  12. I haven’t read the Harry Potter books because I was never into watching the movies or reading the books. I own all of them but never sat down read them. They never seemed interesting. You should read the Lunar Chronicles ,they are about Cinderella (which is called Cinder), Little Red Riding Hood (Scarlet I am currently reading this right now), Rapunzel (Cress), and Snow White (Winter). They are by Marissa Meyer. The books are off set versions of the story. Each of them have all the characters in them.

    1. I have had all the books for a couple years, but thought they looked like they would take a long time to read. I have read three in a week and a half though! I didn’t know that series was called the Lunar Chronicles. I have seen people reading them, and they look good.

  13. I haven’t really gotten around to reading any Harry Potter books, I know they’re probably good but I just haven’t read it yet. It’s probably a good choice of book for you to read!

    1. That was kind of how I was. Once my husband was in ICU and I had a lot of sitting around time, it was the perfect chance to start.

    1. I have read Divergent, but not any of the other books in the series. We actually watched Insurgent while we have been up at the hospital. I should read them all before the last one comes out!

    1. That sounds good, I have never heard of it. I thought the books would take forever too, but they are going pretty quickly.

    1. I think watching the movies first helped me picture everything in the book. What are some good books that let you imagine what is happening?

  24. I prefer the Harry Potter Video Game over the books from the gamecube. You should check out the Percy Jackson series. I LOVED IT. (Not as much as Video Games though)

  25. Hello Mrs. Black,

I have read the first three Harry Potter books and then lost interest. I loved the Divergent series. However, right now I am reading James Patterson’s The 4th of July… a women’s murder club book. Hope all is well.

    1. You should! Or maybe you wouldn’t like them, and in that case you should read something else. What types of movies do you like?

    1. Have you seen or read “Children of the Corn?” If you haven’t seen the movie, you won’t get the comment I put on your paper. The movie is based on a short story by Stephen King. Something tells me you would like it.

  30. If you get the chance you should try and read 13 Reasons Why it’s a really good book and I hope your husband is getting better!
